Around the
web:
- This one had some saying
“slap a fancy label on it and sell it for $18 a fun wine
will make your guest feel spoiled.”
- “A favorite everyday
table wine.”
- “Not the
best...”
- “Embarrassing
”
- “Good everyday table
wine”
- “Caution - similar to two
buck chuck (Chuck Shaw Red Wines at $1.99) enjoy with
caution.”
Note - I hated giving this
wine a poor review. We visited the Coppola Estate in Napa
Valley. The host of our tour and tasting
was by far one
of the most knowledgeable and engaging people we met. The
winery and history were something to behold.
What we
thought.
First
impression - this wine assaulted our
mouth. Tart tannin's burnt oak and Alcohol. Lots of
heat going down that lingered. We uncorked it about 15min
before the first glass. My wife made a face. The label billed
it as an everyday wine to have on the table at dinner each
night. We had it paired with pasta and a red sauce with garlic
bread.
We set it aside until
the next day. On the second day it had calmed down a
bit and was much more drinkable. Light in the mouth, berries,
plum and smoke, milder tannin's medium light finish, still some
heat on the back palate. A
little earth and dust.
On the third day it was flat
as in little flavor, we poured it out (not something we usually
do).
Can't see this on the
table every night when there are lots of other reds that
offer much more for the same price.
Two that come to mind, though
not necessarily everyday table wines are:
Cotes Du Rhone Leon
Pommier 2003 a $9.99 winner that taste like a $25
offering.
Cotes Du Rhone
Villages Les Champaugvins 2004 a $13.99 winner that
taste like a $40 offering.
