Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel was the winner of our poll for “which wine to review next” by a landslide at 58%.

Fat Bastard Pinto Noir came in second at 32% the rest were not even close.

It also won our Old Vine Zin & BBQ Ribs Shootout. Beating out Seven Deadly Zins (a Playboy featured wine) & Bogle Old Vine Zin.

"The Shootout review will be on line soon and include the delicious BBQ Ribs Recipe."

The UnConnoisseur Review

Gnary Head Old Vine ZinThis wine rocks. It is one of our favorites at any price point, but at $9.99 widely available in stores it is a Frugal Must Buy. Two Thumbs Up & A WooHoo!

Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel pairs GREAT with BBQ Baby Back Ribs or Chicken or a Robust Chili!

To die for... Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin wine (after opening up for an hour) with a bite of Ghirardelli's double semi sweet chocolate fudge brownies... A pairing made in Heaven.

So... we love it especially with the brownies :)

The Connoisseur Review

The Old Vine Zin BBQ Winner Gnarly HeadThe Gnarly Head 2006 Old Vine Zinfandel is from vines in the Lodi region up to 80 years old. The vines are free standing  trained and produce the “gnarly” thick head of the vine.

On the nose big dark fruit aromas with subtle notes of spice, oak and cocoa (after it opens up).

Full bodied mouth feel. Fruit forward with big blackberry & cherry flavors, spice, pepper and vanilla, structured tannin & acidity (not weak here). Medium to longish finish brings a touch of heat.

This is a big wine and part of the fun is sniffing and tasting as it evolves in your glass. Some people may want to open an hour before serving or decant.

We like to sip & sniff as it opens up catching all the subtle layers that are expose during this time.

It is aged in American, French & Hungarian Oak giving a unique taste to the oak tones.

This one is a keeper!
